Rainy day activities

Pete and I didn't realize how creative our kids are (or how bored the rain has made them) until we discovered them playing in the basement. In Switzerland, most houses have a big room in the basement that they call le cave. That's pretty much what it is. It has cement walls, no carpet, and although it has a light, it is pretty dark. Anyway, we use it for storage and have all sorts of things down there as shown in the pictures.

Here is their version of waterskiing. As you can see, our kids are very safety conscious. They each had a life jacket on and Alex was wearing knee pads while Ruby pulled him around the cave on Pete's rollerblades. The purple thing in Ruby's hands is the handle to her bike. Alex used his boy scout knot to tie a rope to it. "Hit it!"

Later, we heard Alex singing songs from the musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the top of his lungs. We ventured downstairs to find him putting up our fake Christmas tree with the help of Ruby, who had discovered some dress-ups in a bin.

Although I don't have a picture of it, Ruby also discovered her old potty chair.

Me: "What's that potty chair doing out?"

Ruby: "I used it."

Pete: "Did you really?"

Ruby and Alex: "Yup!"

Me: "That's gross! Why didn't you go upstairs?"

Alex: "It's ok mom. I emptied it already."

Pete: (looking around the room for tinkles) "Where did you empty it?"

Alex: (looking proud of himself) "In the laundry room sink. And I rinsed it out for you."

your kids are awesome! I was laughing out loud the whole time. Spencer did pose a good question though, why did you guys take life jackets with you to Switzerland? Worried about your house flooding or something?

How creative! I love the potty incident--great self-reliance and independence!

ONLY your kids would be cleaning up their own messes by now! You've trained them well.

And I want in on your quilting group when you return--if you allow total rookie's like myself to join!
