Alex and Ruby's school district decided to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of its establishment with a lot of fanfare. We were asked last year to "save the date" for a big party, Swiss style.

The last Saturday in September started out with a parade followed by singing. After that we were free to explore rooms decorated according to countries around the world. It was interesting to see the US display. They had a tiny Statue of Liberty, the Las Vegas strip and Hollywood Blvd. They also served a huge international buffet lunch (for a fee of course). It was a lot of fun and we brought home three tired kids.

A view of the parade route through the village of Begnins
Henry, Christina and Caroline waiting for the parade to start
Each village was assigned a color and then the kids spent time in class working on their costumes. All of the costumes were so clever and I loved the fact that the parents weren't the ones doing all the work.
Here are the painters of Begnins. Don't you love the giant paint brushes?
Our school wore red and the kindergarten classes were ladybugs. Each of the kids painted their own umbrella in class and made their antennas.
Our cute little ladybug
The rest of the school wore Asian related costumes...
...complete with a few dragons
Our favorite Asian boy
The village of Duillier dressed up as bees, flowers and honeypots
The teachers were beekeepers. Recognize anyone Penny?
The village of Le Vaud
This was one of my favorites. The village of Marchissy dressed up as martians.

Complete with a space ship
The village of Vich
Awesome masks
Ruby marching farther along the parade route
A shot of the big dragon
Last but not least: the village of Coinsins
Sailors, fishermen and...
...a really cool boat
After the parade the kids all sat together by school to sing and release balloons into the air.
Ruby holding on tight to her balloon

Singing about red balloons with broken strings that fly away. Can you find Alex and Ruby?

Releasing the balloons into the sky. It's funny how Switzerland is so "green" but would launch a hundred balloons without giving it a second thought.

So fun and kind of not green or p.c.! Hey, I'm so glad you know about Pace's rainbows - I want one sooo bad right now!

what an adorable parade, and yes I recognized more than a few kids from Duillier! Makes me miss Switzerland and the quaint things like that, that still happen over there.

That looks like so much fun! I wish I lived there...for a year at least!
