Who knew that there was a little piece of Switzerland right in the middle of Utah? OK, so I'm not sure if Midway is right in the middle of Utah, but it is full of all things Swiss. From the old buildings on Main Street, to the street names (Interlaken Way), to several Swiss flags proudly waving, it was hard not to notice it all. The funny thing is, I have been there several times before and it never hit me. Apparently I had to move halfway around the world first. Go figure. Anyway, Midway was the location of Pete's family's reunion and it was lovely.

the Utah "Alps"
It's hard to see in this picture, but this house is flying the American and Swiss flags
One building on Main Street proudly displayed the shields of each canton in Switzerland
The canton of Vaud (where we live) is white and green and says "Liberte et Patrie"

Even the LDS church building in Midway was done in the Swiss style

When Henry saw these cows he thought we were home. Apparently he doesn't realize that cows exist outside of Switzerland. I will have to say though that these cows are small compared to the ones he's used to.

How cool is that? We went to a breakfast place in Reno called Heidi's that also displayed all the cantonal flags and had lots of Swiss named thing--however Audrey pointed out they had painted one of the cantonal flags incorrectly. We miss you guys, thanks for keeping us up to date with your blog--you are inspiring me...maybe someday I will start working on my blog again.
